Arborsculpture, a branch of arboriculture is specifically involved with the shaping of tree trunks and branches into amazing structures, which have either ornamental or functional utility. Basic techniques involve Pruning, grafting and bending single or multiple trees into shapes are involved in the state-of-the-art technique. The arts created grow thicker and stronger as the tree adds annual rings. The closest related practice is espalier.

Trees don’t feel pain. They never did and never will. They have no brains, no nerves, no pain receptors. So don’t worry your head about that.
Also, Kim, of course most (if not all) of these are do not naturally grow in perfect lattice or chair shape.
