This corny looking toy is actually the world’s first bio-degradable USB storage device designed by Honk Kong based electronics company Hoshino. The entire device in itself is not bio-degradable, just the plastic used to make it’s outer shell. It’s made from PLA (polylactide) a compound fermented from corn kernels and is 100% bio-degradable which smells and even tastes like corn (just don’t try and eat it). And to exemplify this fact, the entire USB husk is shaped like an ear of corn to remind you of its virtues every time you plug it in.
This invention holds a lot of promise, and not just in the field of electronics. Bio-degradable plastic is just what the world has been crying out for of late. This seems like an awesome solution to that call, and hopefully it will weed its way into other plastic commodities in the near future.

This is nice. Actually I had read about ’corn plastic’ many years ago. Good to see its not forgotten and gadgets are designed around it... plastic are a big nuisance!
Great to know that bio-degradable plastic is creeping in to the field of technology too! Hope to see many more techie stuff soon.
I know this is really good to know. But why they thought of making a thumb drive out of this is a little strange. I would have thought of using this plastic to replace the polythene bags that plague out everyday life. But this is a step no doubt and hopefully not the last one.
