Researchers from NASA, NOAA and Howard University launch a weather balloon aimed at monitoring air quality in this undated recent photo.



Bad air is no rare a term in most of the regions across the world. To monitor some of these, balloons and a satellite are the right gadgets. The climate scientists of the Howard University Center for Atmospheric Science launched a weather balloon with a satellite called Aura. Aura zooms into some 400 miles above.



Since, understanding the atmosphere where people live and where things get messy and polluted is also important; Whiteman and other scientists timed the balloon launch of a cluster of weather instruments with Aura’s pass overhead.



And, while Aura looked down from its polar orbit for making measurements of greenhouse gases like - methane, ozone and water vapor - the instruments took measurements at the same time, rising on the tail of a big helium balloon.
