
With the swelling market for hybrid car, the Chrysler unit of Daimler Chrysler AG made a comeback after years of staying away from hybrid vehicles with its first hybrid vehicle to be launched in 2008. The unit’s chief of product development said announced this on Wednesday.
Though popular for better fuel economy, consumers are often reluctant to buy a hybrid car for it extra prices. On this lines Klegon said, “It’s not a great business case. But we have to balance the market pull with regulatory requirements.”
The Dodge Durango will feature a two-mode hybrid system, boosting the vehicle’s fuel efficiency by as much as 25 percent, Klegon informed. The system is developed jointly by General Motors Corp., BMW and DaimlerChrysler.
