Even the routers that keep us connected are going green! In a bid to cut down on power consumption and leave faint carbon footprints, D-Link has excelled as the first company to offer green Wi-Fi home networking. Tweaking its Xtreme NT line of wireless routers with green element, the company aims to reduce the devices’ power consumption by 40 percent without sacrificing performance. How is it possible? Apparently, the new features cut down the power usage by automatically detecting link status and network cable length then adjusting the power accordingly. The new routers also feature Wi-Fi scheduling that allows customers to easily program when the Wi-Fi radio signals are turned on and off to further save energy consumption. D-Link has come up with a feature that provides a user-selectable radio shutdown option that’s adjustable by day and start/end times.
The three new green routers that are made from recycled materials are D-Link Xtreme N Gigabit Router (DIR-655), D-Link Xtreme N Duo Media Router (DIR-855), and the D-Link Xtreme N Gaming Router (DGL-4500). The maker has also enhanced their performances by updating them to support IPv6, a much larger address space that allows greater flexibility in allocating addresses and routing traffic. For $150-$350, you too can opt for a green surfing with these eco-friendly D-Link routers.

Yes, you are right Deepa. But just the other day I read about mass-production of solar devices that can start happening in another 5 to 7 years. If that happens, we can see markets flooded atleast with solar charged eco-friendly devices.
