This is probably the most unbelievable piece of news if you have never heard of something like this before and I really was taken aback for a moment too before the idea hit me swiftly. While dumping trash in to the ocean might appear to be suicidal step towards nature and that is true in most of the cases, this is an exception. Old ship wrecks and other giant metal structures that have submerged in the past in to the deep dark fathoms below have provided a heaven for Marine life in the past. This is a venture that aims towards that exact same result.
Marine biologists have confirmed without a shadow of a doubt that huge metal structures at the bottom of the ocean gradually end up becoming a part of the ocean and they are amazing homes for a variety of ocean life. Now that is really wonderful and while that does not mean we fill the ocean floor with metal, it is a proper way it dispose a few Subway cars of that are now useless. The cars end up being a wonderful home for that beautiful marine life.
The Redbird Reef off the coast of Slaughter Beach, Delaware is a dump site for retired New York City subway cars, and there are already nearly 700 of them on the ocean floor. Rather than abandon the structures, fish are moving in at such a rate that the program is trying to provide more cars. What’s more, the program is also facing competition from other states after its impressive success, as the city of New York offers the cars for free. So if you are not quick enough, the fishes might end up getting all the cars! This is really nice and there is nothing to really crib about in this. Well done guys for providing luxury homes to the life in the depths!

Hello,
Great post.
I just had to add some information. I am no expert on the subject of diving, but here in the Puget Sound region there are some AMAZING wreck diving. The act of using old ships, containers or other scrap is a wonderful idea.
Of course, you wouldn’t want any with toxic chemicals or anything like that, but as long as it’s clean it is pretty neat.
Think about what it would be like to swim through those old subway cars when they are infested with sea life.
Sounds really neat to me.
Thanks for the post.

I forgot to mention this neat site with some cool wreck diving on it. It is from the Puget Sound. Check it out!
Wreck Dives
Yes, Nick that is indeed a cool idea and more importantly an idea that could help us save the planet in more than one way. I have known that people are trying to encourage coral reefs on these wreckages and the idea is apparently working out pretty well. Finally for once, our trash is becoming something of a good thing for the planet and that truly is great news. But I hope they do not over do this; maybe they can’t either :)
