Vyasateja Rao has bought to our notice that 2.6 billion people lacked access to improved sanitation which represents 42% of the world’s population. Moved by this alarming fact, Rao has conceptualized the Eco Toilet in to a prototype. Motivated to provide a clean, portable sanitation solution the people in numerous refugee camps, he has found the best green waste-solution that can be combined with the Mobile Shelters for the deprived. Made of roto molded biodegradable plastic and ceramic, the toilet bowl is designed to evoke a very clean and sanitary feeling and also brings about a sense of comfort.

The interior is modeled on the existing squatting toilets but the toilet is designed to provide the advantages of squatting and sitting which is why it raised at a height of 12 inches. This renders an ergonomic posture to combine the conventional health benefits of squatting and sanitary benefits as well.

The user can pick up the bag with some powder provided in it and place it on the bowl when he needs to relieve himself. As the waste comes in contact with this powder, it turns in to a set of blue odorless sanitary crystals.
While the bio starch panels and 50 mm thick honey comb cardboard panels allow support and light, waste basket collects the paper bags used via a chute that drops it in. Water proof fabric protects against heat and rain and also provides cover. It also features an extra basket to support waste management.
Absolutely handy, it comes as a package and can be rapidly deployed by land, water or air.

Wow…this is brilliant!! So much water can be saved thanks to this invention, especially the part where u mentioned how the powder can turn the waste into a set of blue odorless sanitary crystals. I really think our country needs more such ’eco lavatories’. I mean can you imagine the difference these prototypes can bring by replacing the regular stinking toilets at all the stations in Mumbai with this!
Yup Nithya, life can be much more beautiful if all such eco concepts are materialized...soon!
Talking about stinking toilets, I think that the loos in long distance trains needs urgent attention. As while traveling, there is no other option.
At least you can skip the nauseating toilets at stations and walk out to opt for some clean toilet at a close by restaurant out side stations :)
