In this day and age, owning a yacht is akin to owing a car. And since we have featured plenty of eco cars, it’s time to bring your attention to a green yacht, too. Dubbed the Island Pilot DSe Hybrid 12m, this eco water vehicle combines diesel, solar and electric power with ease. The “12m” in the name stands for its length of 12 meters. Exploiting a 6 kW photovoltaic solar array plus a 20kWh battery pack, it can travel at speeds of 7kt in zero emissions mode using only electric power, or up to 13kt using diesel. The DSe requires a total of 6 kW to cruise at 6 knots and 10 kW to cruise at 7-1/4 knots.
It is conveniently designed to alter to the need of alternative fuels. When the diesel is running, the motors become generators, supplying a charging current (10 kW total) for the battery arrays and the pair of 3.6 kW pure sine wave Outback inverters that supply the 120 vAC for air conditioning, cooking, entertainment, hot water and outlets.
All set to sail over the red carpet, this green yacht will make waves over blue waters at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show.

A yacht is an ideal green candidate. With plenty of sunshine, solar panels can work quite well and with so much wind in sea, it can be even efficiently sail powered and even wind-powered.
Plus the luxury most Yacht has... I know a yacht selling company in Mumbai and they had shown me presentation of different Yacht models.... its like WOW!!
