It is ironic when you say that something made out of plastic actually spreads green goodness around, but in the case of the Izzy bike, it might be well true. The Izzy bike helps promote green commuting in a cool new way and that too with some degree of style and comfort. Being eco-friendly is no longer just geeky, but it is the cool new way to go ahead. Omer Sagiv, the designer, explained that this bike has 2 unique free standing locking systems, 3 dimensional illumination and integrated rear suspension are all inbuilt, providing cheap and simple solutions to problems that every urban bike rider experiences and have been designed with the urban rider in mind.
The cool new bike has some wonderful features and the new elegant design is sure to make it a big hit. The fact that it is made out of plastic, means that it will not be something that will be too friendly towards the land-fill. But we are more bothered about those carbon emissions and the ways to reduce them for now. The design of the bike looks pretty simple and stylish and it will attract all those who wish to change to green commuting. The fact that it is not ungainly or overly flashy is a real good thing.

The bike is designed to make sure that it tempts more and more people to take up green commuting and once you are on this thing, you will get used to it pretty soon. That surely is the right way forward.

I don’t agree with you on the fact that when we have plastic vs. car CO2, plastic comes out to be more eco friendly...
Plastic is made of petrol and unless we can recycle the material, its destruction is also really harmful. In addition, such bike’s life expectancy is probably weak as plastic is fragile. Hence going from cars to plastic bikes remains quite useless!!!
Thus I find it quite irresponsive to put forward such an initiative when dozens of bike manufacturers exist - with far more sustainable bikes.
This blog usually shows more common sense! What happened here? Cool design never means environmentally sound!
When i say plastic, i do not surely mean a variety of plastic that will just wear away quickly with time. But i do agree with you that it is not the ideal solution to the problem. As far as far more suitable bikes go, we would welcome if you point them out. It is still a difficult thing to practically overcome and eliminate the usage of plastic completely and that too rapidly. As far as common sense goes, didn’t we here that it is not not all that common always. :)
Anyway let me assure you that this is not a ’fragile’ bike
