Several consumers and even some electric contractors are not to sure about how much energy is saved by dimming a light bulb by 50% and how much life of the bulb is extended by the same. The answer is that if we dim a light bulb by 50% it accounts for 20 times increase in the life of the bulb and a reduction of 40% in the energy used.
Lighting control giant Lutron has already been leading the green revolution with its products, now the company wants each and every home to save energy and for this they are offering a device called the Grafik Eye QS. The device not only saves energy but also makes the room more beautiful. The Grafik Eye QS is a three- to six-zone single-room lighting controller. It comes equipped with a LCD panel on its face that reads out the status of the lights and even how much energy is being saved when you dim the lights.
Still the main problem is that we can only dim bulbs but cannot reduce the amount of electricity consumed by CFLs. For this the company says that people should maintain a balance between bulbs and CFLs for better energy savings. Moreover, using dimmers also changes the mood of the room which is an added benefit.
To better the featured being offered in the controller the company has added shade controls to the product. Shades harness sunlight so it can be used to heat the room and also cool it if required. The device does not want you to fiddle much with its buttons so the company has integrated astronomic clock in it for automatic lights and shades control according to schedules.
Lutron also believes that lighting represents only about 8% of the total energy consumption of a home and a major portion of it comes is represented by other gadgets and machines that we use at home, still if each and every home uses dimmers than the energy saved will be equal to that by removing 370,000 cars from the road.
Lutron has also developed a 12,000 square foot area to educate customers and contractors on the aesthetics and convenience of lighting controls. The facility includes room for kitchen, bedroom, bathroom, living room and home theater.
People often look at magazines and admire the homes that are shown in them. But whenever tehy try to replicate them they don’t get an exact design and feel. The reason is that the photographer who clicked the image must have used different lightings for that great look. Everyone can do that at home provided you have the best lighting controls.
