Now, any one can enjoy soybean delicacies, even ones who are allergic to it! Yes, researchers have successfully isolated two Chinese soybean lines that grow without the primary protein that leads to allergies in children and adults.
Already adapted to Illinois-like conditions, the two lines will be given away to breeders in a bid to produce new allergy-free soybean varieties, amazingly without the need of genetic engineering!
This research effort is said to have been followed by companies in Japan, Canada and across the United States.

How is this different than genetic engineering? ”Knocking-out” the gene will have identical consequences whether the mutation occured naturally or if it was targeted. While this is different that the traditional idea of trangenic plants in which ’beneficial’ genes are added, rather than detrimental ones subtracted, the authors’ of the science daily article and the researchers’ are not helping the public or scientists by pandering to the anti-GMO crowd in this manner, rather than explaining the true concerns that underlie the use of trangenic crops.
