Pick your pullover along, the next time you think of strolling down the alley to that nearest cafe, coz who knows - a green geek in the locality has got rid of a patio heater there.
No cigarettes inside a restaurant, and here perhaps an indirect ban on them outside too - a campaign has been launched in the UK to halt the spread of environment-damaging patio heaters that kept you cozy outside the confines of the cafe allowing you to puff tobacco.
It’s projected that outdoor heaters could be responsible for about 1m tones of CO2 emissions a year. In an attempt to avert the dire state, Energy Saving Trust (EST) has called upon the patio heater retailers to stop selling heaters - as the sale of such heaters is expected to double by next year due to their growing popularity amongst both commercial and private users.
The patio heater is blamed for using the same amount of heat in six months as much a kitchen gas hub would in a year. Therefore, when EST used its Green Barometer - surveying 1,200 households across the country, it found that most were planning to buy the heater.
It is probably not feasible to refrain the retailers from selling heaters, as it is their profession - they aren’t the ones who dictate consumers what to bye and what do with the purchase back home. Yes, patio heaters are responsible for excessive CO2 emissions - therefore, instead of inefficiently banning the heaters, it would be better to provide right information about the product to the customers.
