Renault takes its first step to introduce bio-fuel-ready vehicles in the market. It has launched diesel version — B30 biodiesel-compatible — of two of its commercial vehicles — the Trafic 2.0 dCi B30 and Master 2.5 dCi B30.
Renault has already promised to sell all fuel-blend-run diesel engines in Europe by 2009 — Commitment 2009. All these fuel blends will contain 30 per cent bio-fuel. The scheme also promises to bring one million vehicles emitting less than 140 g/km of CO2 to market by 2008. One third of these vehicles will emit less than 120 g/km.
To help reduce CO2 emission of vehicles, Trafic and Master vehicles are fitted with diesel engines that run on B30 bio-diesel, which were released in France in December 2006.
With Master being equipped with a 100 hp and 120 hp 2.5 dCi B30 units, the Trafic is available with a 90 hp and 115 hp 2.0 dCi B30 engine. All these engines are capable of running on diesel or a diesel/biodiesel mix a content of up to 30 per cent biodiesel.
