Using kinetic energy to juice of gadgets is not too novel. However, I haven’t seen its application widely spread. But Kenneth Tay intends to revive this green method of powering doodads by devising a music player on the same lines. Dubbed as Shake, its uber simple to understand that this MP3 can be charged by shaking! No prizes for guessing that. This action of shaking the player to charge it is akin to the shaking a pocket watch to wind it. And to understand how this works, let’s get inside this player. An electromagnetic coil is connected to the battery that converts kinetic energy into electrical energy that charges battery. The player connects to the computer via a USB cable through the headphone jack, facilitating the transfer of songs as well as the conventional method of charging.

For play/pause, you need to shake once but to charge it, you need to keep it shaking continuously. Gosh, the latter part doesn’t sound too encouraging.
Bid adieu to batteries and grids!

Oh yes, the continuously shaking part does not sound good at all.
Though I admire the out-of-the-box thinking of the inventor, but you just can’t make people buy a product and then make them do this kind of stuff to use them when there are other easier options available.
Imagine people around you shaking their music players to charge them!!
On the second thought this type of charging can come handy when the battery has died and you have no place to charge it... something like secondary/optional charging.
Yup, it will definitely help to have such a shaky charger as an alternative.
Actually its not a bad idea as an alternate charging... i have got stuck with my drained out ipod when I needed it on travel and it sucks big time when there is no way to charge it ...
I wonder if this one would crank up if allowed to hang and swig from side to side. Then it won’t be that bad I guess.
However the shaking thing seems to be only a fail-safe mechanism. It does charge the conventional USB way, right?
Hey Gagandeep, yes it does get charged conventionally via USB. Thats when I realised its not that bad an idea after all... When you are not indoors, just shake and listen .. wish I could do that to my ipod too!
Hey Gagandeep, the post does mention about its ability to charge via USB.
