Here is another example of wasted resource put to good use. Landfill can now be an exciting source of electricity production. In Springfield, a new Noble Hill Landfill Renewable Energy Center has opened up that will produce electricity form alternative resources.
This power plant will relieve the environment burdened with the soaring landfills across the world. It is a $7 million landfill energy project that taps methane trapped deep within the landfill. This will eventually generate up to 3.2 megawatts of electricity. It is a joint venture between the City of Springfield and City Utilities.
Gov. Matt Blunt, whille dedicating the Noble Hill Landfill Renewable Energy Center, told a crowd of about 100 people, “I’m seldom excited to be at a landfill, but I am today.” He called the renewable-energy project “an example of Ozarks ingenuity.”
