Modern lighting is seeing exciting times with CLF lamps replacing conventional lamps that we have been using for a long, long time. That technology is being taken forward by LEDs which are revolutionizing the way we look at modern day lighting systems by saving 80% more energy than normal lamps. But it is still nice to see that people are working on conventional energy and conventional lamps to make sure that they last longer than usual. Now Toshiba is exactly doing that with the new ‘Pride’.
Toshiba’s new Neoball-Z Real Pride bulbs are actually fluorescent lamps that ditch the hideous corkscrew shape in favor of a more traditional design. However, the big news is that their life span is rated at 12,000 hours. That’s 1.2 times better than similar existing products and about 12 times better than an incandescent bulb. Power consumption has been rated at a money-saving 10 watts and it will be available in warm white, day white and daylight flavors starting on July 1st.
I never knew that lamps are also made in ‘Flavors’, I thought they come in colors or shades. No pricing information has been announced yet, but I suppose it would be a touch more pricey than the conventional bulbs. That’s is totally acceptable, as such a lamp would last far more longer and would not only benefit the planet, but also save a lot of figures on the bills. That is really all advantage for everyone concerned.

LED’s are the way to go and recently i did an article on LED’s and i was stunned that they coulld outlast incandescent and flouroscent by ten times.,.and consume just a fraction of power. Methinks the future of Lighting is LED and OLED.

LEDs are the future of lighting and OLEDs are the next step forward without a doubt. But maybe for lighting at night, we could use Tritium powered lights which glow all by themselves without an energy source. Right now, that light is not bright enough to light up our rooms, bat maybe it will be one day. They work on radioactivity, but their emissions are so weak that they do not cause any harm to the environment. But for now OLEDs are the way to go.
