Here is a windmill without blades. With more and more birds dying, being hurt and cut by windmill blades, the Mekaro Akita Co. has developed a windmill that uses cylinders replacing propeller blades. And, this windmill amazingly generate power efficiently.
Each of these five cylinders, replacing the blades is 10-meter-in-diameter. To produce sufficient lift necessary for spinning all of them in a circular motion, all these cylinders rotate individually, hence producing electricity. To turn the cylinders initially, an electrical unit is attached. Thus, this model can serve the nature both ways - by harnessing wind power and getting friendly to the flying creatures like birds and bats.

Windmill goes bladeless!

I don’t see how this stops birds getting hit. Why won’t they still get hit by tubes rather than blades?
Two reasons 1) certain migrating birds are attracted to the aviation warning lights on some turbines, 2) the constant ”hum” or ”whine” of bladed turbines attracts birds and bats. Once drawn in, they at risk of being ”sliced” by the blades rotating at high velocities. The Mekaro design is silent, and even if impact occured, the damage is comparatively less fatal. These scaled-down personal types of energy generators spread the infrastructure costs across a broader base of consumers, reducing installation costs and increasing the egr valve of using alternative energy resources.great design and alternative to wind at home! I’m glad it’s bat and bird friendly. That’s a real concern.
