Most of us like to do our small bits for our beloved planet. Some do a little more. And some, like Toni Vernelli, is happy to give her all, even her Motherhood, to save the world! Unbelievable though it may sound, vegetarian since the age of 15 and passionate about the environment, Toni had always been determined never to have a child, as, according to her, it would only mean selfishly adding to the problems of food, water, land, fuel, toxic waste and over-population that the world is plagued with.
By sheer luck, she found a like-minded partner in her first husband. She decided to stop taking pills sterilize herself at the age of 21. Her doctor refused downright but allowed her husband to go ahead with vasectomy. However, when Tony was 23, the marriage fell apart. At the age of 25, after aborting her boyfriend’s baby, Tony was determined to ensure that such an “accident” never happens again. At the age of 27, Tony’s dream of not adding to the burden of the world was realized in Brighton. She was sterilized. She got full moral support from her proud mother. Ed, her future husband, who shares her views, gave her a card saying “congratulations” on the morning of the surgery.
Toni is not the only one, Sarah Irving has been through several broken relationships because her boyfriends wouldn’t give up fatherhood for the sake of the planet. Sarah started work for the Ethical Consumer magazine, and seven years ago she met her fiancČ Mark Hudson, a 37-year- old health- care worker, who shared the same ideas about the environment and children. They considered it safer for Marc to have vasectomy than she being sterilized and went ahead with it. Moreover, they don’t have a car, cycle everywhere, and never fly. They recycle, use low-energy light bulbs and eat only organic, locally produced food.
These women may have deprived themselves of the pleasure of loving and nurturing an innocent baby, but they bask in the glory of doing their bit for the planet.

Are you kidding me, we are using this as a role model. Abortion (killing a baby) in the name of saving the environment. I am such a huge environmental buff, but writing about this lady as if she is something special just because she aborted her child and had a vasectomy, you have got to be kidding me.
Terrible article on a good site.
That is crazy. If you don’t want to have a kid it is fine. But aborting one is unpardonable. Anyway nobody in this world can ever be deprived of nurturing a little child. There are millions of orphaned children in this world. It would have been worth writing about if Toni had decided to adopt a child instead of aborting her own or making a big issue about it.
hi, thanx for your response. ya i think these women are strange too and it was terribly wrong on Toni’s part to abort a child. and u r right in saying that she could have adopted an orphaned child. but she made news just because she did something so outrageous, right?

I like how the issue is now about abortions. You want to know what’s unpardonable? The people who have 8 children, 17 children, those people who keep having kids. Whot can’t pay for their kids to go to college, or eat, and just add to the world’s over population problem.
Obviously Toni got pregnant as an accident, didn’t intend to have a hcild, and has every right to abort the FETUS NOT A BABY. But then by your standards eating eggs from chickens is like killing a little baby chick already breathing, walking, etc.
You have every right to keep your fetus if you consumate one, you have no right to tell others what to do, judge them, or claim they are mudering something that doesn’t quite exist yet. Especially when it’s completely legal. Next you’ll be telling me how a 13 year old rape victim should carry the baby out to term.
Women fought hard for their rights. Freedom to choose is their right. Let’s move forward, not backward. Let’s worry about other things in life like AIDS, Rape victims, and conservation; not how some environamentalist doesn’t want a child and had an abortion.
Grrr...
Anyone who thinks that it’s not justifiable or right to be able to abort a unborn human baby should really be thinking more about life and the current situation of the earth.
Population control, resulting in less human consumption, is only one of the reasons a person may want to have an abortion, I won’t bother mentioning others, since that would be off topic.
Don’t you people realize that the human population is increasing more and more at an exponential rate? Don’t you also realize that many of you are living in countries which are consuming more and more each year per individual as well? Humans are living a completely unsustainable lifestyle, and ABSOLUTELY NOTHING (other than some fictional/unrealistic super technological epiphany) short of population control could this problem ever be fixed. The fact is Population control MUST exist if you care about the environment. We destroy invading (and non-invading) animal species who thrive and destroy their ecosystems due to their selfishness and overpopulation, We we do nothing about ourselves... a bit hypocritical, don’t you think?
China is perhaps the only place in the world which is not ignoring that fact. In China, the problem is that without abortions and sterilization, what happens when more than one or two kids are made? well aside from trying to hide it from the government, there’s infanticide and child abandonment. Do you honestly think infanticide and child abandonment is a better plan than abortion?
Call yourselves unrealistic, selfish cornucopians, not environmentalists.
This is an ”assertive writing” expressing my opinion, intended to continue intelligent conversation, not to start a bunch of people on a mindless flame.
You will find the visible and invisible victims at http://www.nitharifacts.com/
Nithari killings were perhaps the most gruesome killings of the year. Everyone was shocked when the skulls and bones of a number of missing children were discovered in the village of Nithari on the outskirts of Noida city. A rich and politically connected Punjabi businessman, Moninder Singh Pandher and his servant Surender Koli had been apprehended on the suspicion of murder of a call girl named Payal by the Noida Police on December 26, 2006.
